Watch out for the Speedy action

Speed is a 1994 American action-thriller film directed by Jan de Bont, and set in Los Angeles. LAPD officer Jack Traven becomes the target of the bomber and extortionist, retired Atlanta bomb squad sergeant, Howard Payne. After Payne escapes his first entanglement with Traven, he arranges a bomb for a city bus that Traven boards and must move above 50 miles-per-hour or perhaps the bomb will explode. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Sandra Bullock and Jeff Daniels. Speed won two Oscars for optimum Sound and Best Sound Effects at the 67th Academy Awards in 1995.

Plot of the movie is; Bomber terrorist's elevator plan backfires, so he rigs a bomb to your LA city bus. The stipulation is: once armed, the actual bus must stay above 50 mph to keep from exploding. And if LAPD Officer Efforts to unload any passengers off, Payne will detonate it. Joe Morton co-stars as Jack's superior and Jeff Daniels supports Jack helping him try and defuse the bomb.

The film was originally written
with all the intention that Jeff Bridges would play Jack and Ellen DeGeneres would play Annie. DeGeneres was chosen as the role of Annie was going to become a comedic role opposite the intense role of Jack.

The film literally ran
out from money prior to being completed. If your film was previewed for an audience, the subway scenes were animated story boards. The listeners loved them a lot; the studio developed the funds to shoot the scenes properly.

The law helicopter utilized by the Captain (or Lieutenant) in the movie, N599DB, spent many years thereafter in operation as C-FCPS, Calgary, Alberta, Canada's police helicopter "HAWC 1". It had been retired and sold to the private citizen in late 2006.

Keanu Reeves initially
refused charge as they found Graham Yost's original script for being excessive just like a Die Hard clone. He signed on after Jan de Bont brought in Joss Whedon to retool the script.
